Antivirus Test Using a Notepad

Test your Antivirus using Notepad 

Are you sure your antivirus can detect threats or malwares? 

This is a really old trick but only few knows how this works and how to use it. This tool is intended to be use by antivirus vendor to test the effectivity of their antivirus software or by just ordinary users. So instead of downloading a real virus to test your security software, you can use this tool instead.  

• This file used to be named ducklin.htm or ducklin-html.htm or similar based on its original author Paul Ducklin and was made in cooperation with CARO. 
   

Instruction:  

Open a notepad and type this code: X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*  

 

Save the file as test-virus.txt 

Run your antivirus scanner to see if it detects it. If it did then your antivirus is a doing its job well.  

It should be detected as EICAR test file.
